The Apulian origins of Vicente, Astor Piazzolla's father had long been known. However, the musician himself did not have precise information about the origins of his maternal grandparents, his mother Assunta Manetti's parents, so much so that after a concert at the Verdi Theater in Pisa in March 1987, he recounted that his grandmother came from the province of Lucca without knowing the exact name of the town. Subsequent investigations document that her maternal grandparents in 1888 left for Argentina from Massa Sassorosso, a hamlet of Villa Collemandina. Marriage certificates of Clelia Bertolami and Luigi Manetti, Assunta's parents, were found in the archives of the parish and municipal registry office. The two young newlyweds - who are shepherds and farmers - emigrated to Argentina, joining relatives residing in Mar del Plata.
