The film, which deals with the theme of emigration from Africa, won the Silver Lion for Directing at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, as well as the Marcello Mastroianni Award to the lead actor Seydou Sarr.
Nominated in the final five for the Academy Awards, it won seven awards at the David di Donatello 2024, including Best Picture and Best Director.
The festival is organized by the Paolo Cresci Foundation for the History of Italian Emigration of Lucca, as part of "I Musei del Sorriso," an initiative of the Territorial Museum System of the Province of Lucca, in collaboration with the Province of Lucca, the Union of Municipalities of the Garfagnana, the Municipality of Gallicano, the Lucca Film Festival, the Paesana Association of Bolognana and with the contribution of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca.
